How to save iPhone notifications to Apple Notes
Short answer: on iOS 27, a Shortcuts automation can append each WhatsApp notification to a note without installing another app. Add the ready-made shortcut, choose your note and enable the automation. It works, but every conversation ends up in the same note, in arrival order.
Install the ready-made shortcut
The shortcut uses only Shortcuts and Notes, which come with iPhone. The developer of NotiKeep tested it on an iPhone with iOS 27 and WhatsApp on October 21, 2026.
Opens in Shortcuts via iCloud. Then choose your note and enable the automation.
- Create a note. In Notes, create an empty note with a title such as “Notifications”.
- Add the shortcut. On your iPhone, open Save notifications to Notes and tap Add Shortcut. Its shared name is in Portuguese.
- Choose your note. In Shortcuts, open the shortcut, tap Edit and tap Note in the Append action. Choose the note you created.
- Enable the automation. Tap the ⌄ arrow on the trigger and turn on Automation. The imported automation is off: the link does not preserve that setting.
- Test it. Ask someone to send you a WhatsApp message, then open your note.
- Tap the trigger’s arrow
- Turn on Automation
Expand the trigger options and turn on Automation. It is off when imported from iCloud. The shared shortcut’s name is in Portuguese.
To include other apps, tap + next to WhatsApp. Notifications from all selected apps go into the same note.
Or build it yourself
- In Shortcuts, tap +, then Edit.
- Tap Automation and choose Notification. Select WhatsApp under App. Leave the filters empty.
- Search for Append at the bottom and choose Append to Note.
- Tap the text field › Select Variable › Notification. Tap the variable again and choose Date. Repeat for Title and Subtitle, add a line break, then add Body.
- Tap Note and choose your note.
- Tap the ⌄ arrow on the trigger and turn on Automation.
The Notification automation guide explains the variable’s properties and what it cannot deliver.
What the note looks like
Each notification adds a date, sender and group name when available, followed by the message text on the next line. Messages from every conversation appear together, in the order they arrived.
Apple Notes or NotiKeep?
Both use the same iOS 27 automation and receive the same text. The difference is how they organize it afterward.
| Notes shortcut | NotiKeep | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | Free for one app. Pro unlocks all apps with a monthly or yearly subscription. See your local App Store price. |
| Organization | One note, in arrival order | By app and conversation, including groups |
| New messages | No per-conversation indicator | A counter for each conversation |
| Search | Notes search and Find in Note | Across all messages, ignoring accents. Filter by app, conversation and date with Pro. |
| Storage | In the note’s account: iCloud, syncing across your devices, or only on your iPhone | Only on your iPhone |
| History retention | The note grows until you delete its content | Forever, 30 days, 90 days or one year |
| Revisit the latest message | Open the note | Action Button, Back Tap or Siri (Pro) |
When Notes is enough
If you receive few messages, only need to keep one conversation or prefer iCloud syncing, the Notes shortcut can do the job for free.
NotiKeep makes more sense when you have several conversations and groups, want to find an older message without scrolling through a long note, or want an archive kept only on your iPhone, protected with Face ID. It also includes a ready-made shortcut and a setup test.
What neither option saves
These limits come from the iOS 27 automation, rather than the app receiving the text:
- Messages that arrived before setup.
- Photos, videos, audio or profile pictures. Only the notification text arrives, such as “📷 Sent a photo”.
- Notifications without a text preview, or messages that produce no notification, such as when a chat is open or notifications for it are muted.
If a message is deleted for everyone after capture, its saved copy remains in both: deletion does not trigger the automation again. See deleted WhatsApp messages on iPhone. Requires iOS 27 or later; check compatible models.
Frequently asked questions
Does the shortcut work on iOS 26?
No. The Notification automation is only available on iOS 27 or later.
Why is nothing being saved to my note?
Check that Automation is enabled under the trigger’s arrow, that you selected a note in the Append action and that WhatsApp notifications include a text preview. A message received while its chat is open does not generate a notification.
Does deleting a message remove it from the note?
No. Delete for Everyone removes the original notification; the automation does not run again and the note stays unchanged.
Can I use this shortcut and NotiKeep together?
Yes. They are separate automations, and each notification can run both.
Can I save notifications from other apps?
Yes. Tap + next to WhatsApp in the trigger. All selected apps append to the same note.
